HELLO WORLD!

My Own Flowers!

This order was a thrill for me to do.  Why?  (more…)

It is Sunday and I love Sundays

DSC00765

It is cloudy and the temperature is comfortable.  I’ll be leaving for praise team practice soon and a morning at church.  During the summer I get to have a little extra time off from my Sunday mornings.  During the year I am the chancel choir director and the handbell director which means my Sunday mornings are taken up with me running around trying to find my music for the service.  (Of course I would do much better if I would de-clutter my life a bit more).  But now I’m much more relaxed.  I have no responsibility in the  music realm til September and I can just go to church and soak up the message that’s waiting for me.

May your Sunday be relaxed and your heart filled with God’s love and know that He loves you and everything that you are and are becoming.

Blessings,

Anne

Weddings and Floral Preservation

Bridal Bouquet preserved

I’m sure you’ve noticed in your life that whatever you’re involved in at the time it seems like everyone else is too.  For example,  when I was pregnant with my first born child I was suddenly surrounded by pregos everywhere.  It seemed like the whole world was pregnant.  You catch my drift!  The same happens in the business world I believe.

It has been my opinion, until I spoke with a fellow comrade who felt differently, that everyone knows about floral preservation.  I’m now learning that perhaps this is not the case.  Lately I’ve signed up on several wedding websites only to see that they have no category for floral preservation…..huh?  You see, when I look up floral preservation on the internet, my computer automatically attracts all the different websites of people who do what I do……..and yet I am discovering that many in the wedding industry do not even acknowledge this business.  This could explain why I get so many calls on a Monday from a frantic mother left with instructions to “find someone who can save this”.  Had they been informed to begin with they wouldn’t have had to call around to 10 or so different flower shops to see if they do it or know anyone who does.

So there you have it.  I would certainly welcome thoughts and ideas that you might have to help spread the word of this particular industry.  There’s nothing like a good brainstorming session to get the creative juices flowing.

In the meantime……..have a great Sunday, and a great Father’s day, and a wonderful day in God’s beautiful world!

Blessings,

Anne

Floral Preservation for Funerals

d-cella-dsc02411

It seems like it was just yesterday when I began preserving flowers along with designing dried florals into arrangements for the home or office.  The preservation began, over 12 years ago,  by saving a friends flowers from her moms’ funeral.  I used to watch with interest when people would come into my shop.  They loved looking at flowers that were hanging to dry over head.  (Yes, I used to hang flowers for my clients before the silica gel entered in on the scene.)  Anyway, customers literally loved looking at all the pretty flowers drying and would reach up and touch them.  I would explain about them all while they listened and then watch them quickly jerk their hands away and jump back if I mentioned that the flowers were from a funeral.  You would think they would get some kind of disease just “touching” the funeral flowers!  (more…)

Anne, IS IT OK TO PUT MY FLOWERS IN THE FREEZER?

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!  Not unless you have a true death wish for them.  My first encounter, with frozen flowers from a clients’  freezer was several years ago.  She had put all her childrens’  flowers in the freezer throughout the years.  They looked beautiful all those years…………right up until the day they were taken out and given to me.  My client wanted me to make some kind of arrangement with all of the flowers to treasure.  That was back in the day before I owned a digital camera…….I’m not sure many of us owned one then…………and I would have taken a picture just to keep in my files – possibly to pull out for a blog such as this one.  I brought the beautiful flowers home with me only to have my heart sink when they thawed!  THEY LOOKED HORRIBLE…..EVEN BEYOND HORRIBLE.  And how was I going to explain it to her when I wasn’t sure that something I did or did not do may have been the cause for this nasty state of things?
