Flowers preserved from a funeral of a Veteran

Back in 1997 a dear friend of mine came to my shop with a request.  “Anne, could you save some flowers from mom’s funeral and make them into some little something for me and each of my sisters?”  I don’t know why I hadn’t thought of it before then.  I had grown and dried my own flowers before but this just had never occurred to me before. What about “not so great looking” flowers

j-talarico-dsc01717_edite1

This lovely rose held a special sentiment for the family who brought it here. It had to be saved even though it was beyond its' fresh state and the edges were turning brown.

Many times over the last several years I have had flowers brought here that were in less than ideal condition.  Here is my take on that which probably makes me different from many in this business.  (more…)

A Tribute to my Cat

Her name was Popsicle.  She appeared one day in my yard as most cats do.  The thing is…….she was the first to do so.  In 26 years no cats had stumbled upon our doorstop looking for a place to hang out so this was unusual.  (more…)

Dried Flowers? Yuk!!! Who would want dried flowers?

Man!  I have got to get used to learning how to use this blogging program!  See picture below and know that it goes with this “story of the day”.  I guess my publishing finger got the best of me as I pressed what I thought was the “preview” button.  You gotta love modern technology tho.  This stuff is so much fun!

Mental Image:  Dried flowers = crusty, flaky, dirty, dusty, drab, boring, ugly.  Pretty picture eh?  It’s been a difficult 19+ years for me trying to explain to people about the beauty of dried flowers.  (more…)

ANNE, WHAT THE HECK ARE YOUR HOURS?

Homey Studio! Complete with my cats. I am so blessed!

Homey Studio! Complete with my cats. I am so blessed!

Just a brief glimpse of my studio,  cats and all!  I am blessed because I specialize in dried florals.  Cats are known for specializing in dried floral matter as well.  They love to eat the stuff.  I can’t tell you how many times the last 20 years people have told me that they would love to buy something but their cats would eat it!  I know this is true about the feline species!  Not mine though!  My cats arrived at my shop in a womb, a stray mother looking for a home.  I had one inside cat (in her mid-teens at the time) and had always had DOGS!  My whole life I grew up as a dog lover and nothing but.  Cats!  No way – I wanted nothing to do with them – and swore I’d never have them.  Never say never!

Long story short – when these “kittens” were born they were welcomed into the world by a complete dog lover and so they were raised as though they were dogs.  I know nothing of raising kittens.  They are my dog-cats.  They come when they are called and have “personalities” beyond measure.  I’ve been told time and again I have the best cats.  And I do!  Best of all, they do not bother my arrangements, in fact, they are not the least bit interested in my stuff, they just want to be near me.  Just like a dog wouldn’t you say?

But I digress.  The title of this blog is “Anne, what the heck are your hours?”.  (more…)
